Democratic spaces for everyone

IDEM is a Horizon Europe project.
IDEM means Innovative and Inclusive Democratic Spaces for Deliberation and Participation.
Horizon Europe project is a program in which European Union funds research projects in universities.

In this project, we develop tools that use artificial intelligence.
Science that studies how to create computer programs that think and act like humans.
That is, the goal is for machines to function like the human brain, understand and reason.

These tools make information easier to understand.
These iDEM language tools help everyone.
Especially people with disabilities, older people, and migrants.
These tools remove language barriers.
This helps people participate in democratic processes.
A democratic process is a process in which people discuss a topic and vote for the best option.

About iDEM project

iDEM project will study language problems in democratic process.
It will find out what users need.
It will learn why users have trouble understanding information.

Artificial Intelligence tools help make information easy to understand.
These tools help people participate in debates.
They are for people with communication difficulties.
They are also for people with intellectual disabilities.

iDEM project will develop 3 pilots in different languages.
A pilot is a situation in which people use the tools to make a democratic process.
For example, people debate on a topic, and vote the best option.
The project will include groups of people who are often excluded.
It will always consider all genders.

About the pilots

We want to create new democratic processes.
Therefore, we design and use 3 pilots in 3 cities.
We work with partner groups that support rights of people and help people in need.
We also work with government groups that support democracy and human rights.
