iDEM: Innovative and Inclusive Democratic Spaces for Deliberation and Participation
Welcome to our newsletter
We're a Horizon Europe project developing AI tools to make information more accessible for everyone. iDEM language tools aim to support people with disabilities, older people and migrants in democratic processes by addressing the language barriers which present an obstacle to their participation.
iDEM started in January 2024 and in these first 7 months we have been actively developing and sharing our project. Find all our updates in this newsletter!

In the spotlight: iDEM interview with FEANTSA
To understand more about the complex reality and diverse needs of people experiencing language barriers, we interviewed FEANTSA’s Policy Officer Simona Barbu. We learnt about how migration, disability and homelessness intersect and how to include the voices of people who experience marginalisation in our digital democracy.
iDEM held a research workshop on 4 July, where 25 experts from 7 European countries highlighted the importance of understanding the needs of participants in democratic processes, addressing power imbalances and developing AI for inclusion.
