iDEM: Innovative and Inclusive Democratic Spaces for Deliberation and Participation

Welcome to our newsletter

We're a Horizon Europe project developing AI tools to make information more accessible for everyone. iDEM language tools aim to support people with disabilities, older people and migrants in democratic processes by addressing the language barriers which present an obstacle to their participation.

iDEM started in January 2024 and in these first 10 months we have been actively developing and sharing our project. Find all our updates in this newsletter!

International Day of Persons with Disabilities

This 3rd of December we celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities under the theme:

Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future

We are all familiar with the phrase “Nothing About Us Without Us”. In recent years disability activists and organisations started calling for “Nothing Without Us!”.

There is no aspect of social or political life that does not pertain to people with disabilities. Implying that only decisions regarding disability affect people with disabilities is a form of exclusion. Every political decision has the potential to involve any person.

In this year’s Day of Persons with Disabilities, iDEM wants to uplift these themes through the promotion of democratic inclusion and participation.

iDEM: inclusion in decision-making processes.

iDEM strives to promote Article 29 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which protects everyone’s right to participation in political and public life.
